Recently, Atlanta was recognized as one of the top growing cities in the United States. The population explosion can be attributed to many factors including a strong job market, exceptional housing market, and the booming film production industry. Atlanta has been compared to Hollywood in the last few years and the growth has been tremendous. Atlanta’s history was founded on the railway systems of America and became a pivotal port between Savannah and the Midwest for the transportation of goods. This caused the city to flourish in the mid 1800’s. Many businesses moved into the Atlanta area, and it saw a steady hike in population over the next 30 years. However, in the 1860’s, the North and the South were in the middle of the Civil War. In 1864, one of the Confederate Generals ordered everyone to leave the city and destroy the town in the process, as he realized that the Union Army was winning the war. Much of the growth and assets of the city were destroyed. A few months later, General Sherman began his infamous march to the sea and ordered all residents out of the city of Atlanta and all military assets destroyed. Eventually, the city began rebuilding thanks mostly in part to the superior railway systems that supported the city’s economy.
